Plucking machines are used in order to produce the largest possible yield with very little manpower.
The top 2-4 leaves and the leaf bud are plucked, together with the plant stalks.
Productions steps:

a) Picking of fresh leaves
b) Withering, as required
c) Roasting for c. 30 seconds at a temperature of around 150°C
d) Rolling, c. 45 min
e) Shaping, as required
f) First drying cycle, lasting about 30 min at a temperature of 110°C-130°C
g) Short cooling phase
h) Second drying cycle, also lasting about 30 min at a temperature of 90°C-110°C
i) Removal of stalks
j) Blending and packaging
