| White gold |
A bit of china clay, quartz and feldspar white gold is not much more than this, and yet for a long time it was considered one of the most precious materials available. The Chinese were manufacturing porcelain a thousand years before they began in Europe.
|
From the 14th century onwards China began exporting high quality porcelain decorated with blue motifs to the stately homes and manor houses of Europe. In the 18th century Augustus the Strong commissioned the physicist Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and the alchemist Johann Friedrich Böttger to begin experiments, in order to get to the bottom of the secret of Chinese porcelain. Their attempts were successful and the first white European porcelain was created in 1708. Only two years later the first porcelain factory was founded in Saxony Meissen. Even today this factory is still well known for its very high quality porcelain.
|
With the industrial revolution and the mass production that came with it the less privileged classes were
able to afford white gold for everyday use. Our range includes a selection of premium quality German porcelain, premium bone china, and good value ceramic sets for regular use.
